This 5" X 7" scrafito drawing of mythical birds is the one that started it all~ the artist's obsession with carved scratch art. Actually her fascination began with scrimshaw art she saw as a child, scratched on fine bone, ivory or baleen, created by whalers whiling away time at sea during the height of the New England whaling trade.
